Responding to Our Partner's Needs

One of the churches destroyed by the storms.
Only a few days ago tornadoes erupted in an enormous way across several southern states. The toll has risen by the hour as communities have been leveled and hundreds of lives have been lost. The hardest hit area has been in our state-to-state partner state, Alabama. Dr. Rick Lance, their Lead State Missionary has written HERE about the impact of the tornadoes on Alabama and the challenge they have before them as Alabama Baptist. He has also recorded several videos to alert Alabama Baptist to what they need to do Here and Here.

Alabama Baptist have been sending volunteers to Michigan for the past four years. We have seen them walk beside us in evangelistic activities, building projects, revivals and so many other Kingdom-building activities.
What must Michigan Baptist do to help our Christian brothers and sisters in our partner state? I think immediately of two words: Give and Go.
  1. GIVE: As Michigan Baptists we need to GIVE to help in their Disaster Relief efforts. You can give at www.MichiganBaptists.org with the assurance that 100% of what you are giving will be used to help Michigan Baptist help our partner state.
  2. GO: For those that are able, we can GO. We have hundreds of trained Disaster Relief volunteers that will be mobilized to Alabama over the next weeks and months. On Sunday, May 1st, we have our chainsaw crew driving to Huntsville, AL. Remember them as they work and share Jesus in that community. More volunteers will soon follow.
If we are to fulfill our new vision statement as a state convention we must respond. We must show that we are "Partners in Advancing God's Kingdom!"

Finally, let us not forget that all of this needs to be bathed in prayer. Pray as we give, pray as we go, pray, pray, pray. And as we pray, keep remembering the monumental task that is before our friends in Alabama. Michigan Baptists, let's respond in a mighty way to help our partners. Thank you for what you will do to give evidence of being "Partners in Advancing God's Kingdom!"
